BULLETIN: ALERT
DO NOT
USE CID OR OTHER DTMF FORMATS
Based upon
what we have been made aware of and considering the facts, ARC recommends that you do not use Contact ID or other DTMF formats in
your panel communications. It is recommended that you use the slower
Pulsed Formats such as 3/1, 4/2 and SIA.
A good number of telephone carriers are now or soon may be using Voice
Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) for part of their transmissions
between their central offices. In an article written by Joan and
David Engebretson titled A Gathering Storm (published on SDM’s
website July 29, 2004) they discuss the problems that have already
occurred and what potential problems lie ahead. They suggest
solutions, too.
At ARC we have already seen that CID does not transmit reliably
on VoIP.
This is why VoIP and other emerging technologies were the main
topic of the ARC Dealer Meeting on December 9, 2004 and followed up
in 2005, 2006, and will continue to be addressed. During this
meeting and since then we have introduced available options
at ARC for dealing with this and other technological changes.
